Oreen Cohen
Oreen Cohen grew up between Rochester, NY and Moshav Merchavia, Israel and earned her BFA in Fine Arts at the University at Buffalo. Her artwork explores the potentiality of material, body and community in site-specific sculpture, public art, intervention and video performance. Oreen was enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University in the Masters of Fine Arts in Contextual Practice (2012-2014) and is currently completing her written thesis. She has held an active public art career over the past ten years participating and organized exhibitions, residencies and public commissions nationally and internationally, including; Alloy Pittsburgh at the Historic Carrie Furnace, FIGMENT Sculpture Project on Governors Island, NYC and the Chevy Commons, Flint Public Art Project (Flint, MI), CerCCa Casamarles in Catalonia, Spain (2012) as well as participated in the class of 2013 at the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
Synonymously developing with her art practice, Oreen has over sixteen years experience developing creative arts programming for children grades K-12 at various art and community based organizations and independent arts mentoring. She has curated and facilitated networking and exchange programs for artists, managed public art projects such as Live Archive (2013), Fallow Grounds (2015), Neu City (2015). Currently, she is a non-profit consultant at Artists Image Resource in Pittsburgh, PA. Her studio is located at Radiant Hall Susquehanna location where she also Programs artist networking events and studio visits. Amongst all things, her favorites are grinding metal and spending time with her German Shepard, Ozzy.
